Act 1
One early afternoon in Prague, circa 1920, the firm master Kolenatý. Vítek, the cleric gave Albert Gregor new trial which, since 1827, was opposed by his family to that of Baron Prus. When the lawyer returned to his office, accompanied by the famous singer Emilia Marty, we learn the causes: the deceased would have been Josef Prus, is soon hundred years, an illegitimate son with singer Ellian MacGregor, whose down all Gregor. But Emilia change in mood when Prus admits possession of letters highlighting the role of a certain Elina Makropoulos in the birth of Ferdinand. Against a sealed envelope that accompanies these letters, the singer promises a night of love baron.
Act III
The next day, after the suicide of the son Prus qu'Emilia had bribed to steal his father, we learn the whole truth about this girl Hieronymus Makropoulos: born in Crete in 1575, she served as a guinea pig in an elixir of eternal life Become over the centuries the various women mentioned, and the initials E. Mr. keep track. The effect of the elixir fading, she returned to Prague to find his form, hidden in the papers of Prus. But she admits the misery of a long existence and eventually offer the formula to the girl who Vítek burns. Emilia collapses, dead.
