12 Days Tuscany History & Culture Tour
Day 1: Rome
Independent arrival in Rome. Welcome drinks at 6:00 PM and overnight stay.
Day 2: Rome Sightseeing
Explore the wonders of Rome at your own pace. Visit iconic landmarks such as Piazza Navona, the Pantheon (AD 118-125), Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, and Piazza Venezia. Overnight stay in Rome (B).
Day 3: Rome – Pisa – Montecatini Terme
After breakfast, depart for Pisa. Explore Piazza dei Miracoli, the Cathedral, Baptistery, and the Leaning Tower. Continue to San Miniato for a brief stop before reaching the spa town of Montecatini Terme. Overnight stay (B, S, D).
Day 4: Montecatini – Lucca – Montecatini
Full-day excursion to Lucca. Walk along the medieval city walls, visit Duomo San Michele in Foro, Santa Maria Forisportam, and St. Giovanni. Explore the Guinigi houses and Piazza del Mercato, originally a Roman amphitheatre. Overnight at Montecatini.
Day 5: Montecatini – Cinque Terre – Montecatini
Full-day tour to the Ligurian coast. Visit Portovenere and Riomaggiore, southernmost village of Cinque Terre. Optionally, take the train to the other villages or stroll the scenic Love Path to Manarola. Return to Montecatini for overnight stay.
Day 6: Montecatini – Florence
Stop at Prato, famous for its textiles, cathedral, Santa Maria delle Carceri, and Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Continue to Pistoia to see Palazzo del Podesta, Palazzo del Comune, and churches including San Giovanni Fuorcivitas, Sant’Andrea, and Madonna dell’Umiltà. Overnight stay in Florence (B).
Day 7: Florence – San Gimignano – Siena – Florence
Explore San Gimignano with Collegiata Church and frescoes of the Old Testament and Last Judgment. Visit Piazza del Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio del Podesta, Museo Civico, and Palazzo del Popolo. Continue to Siena and enjoy its medieval streets, Piazza del Campo (home to the Palio horse race). Overnight stay in Florence (B).
Day 8: Florence
Free day to explore Florence. Visit the Duomo and Baptistry, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Uffizi Gallery. Stroll over Ponte Vecchio for jewelry shopping. Overnight stay (B).
Day 9: Florence – Arezzo – Perugia
Depart for Perugia, stopping in Arezzo (famous from the movie “Life is Beautiful”). Visit Piazza Grande and the Church of San Francesco with frescoes of the Legend of the True Cross. Brief stop in Corrona before reaching Perugia. Overnight stay (B).
Day 10: Perugia – Assisi – Perugia
Full-day excursion to Assisi, the town of St. Francis. Visit Basilica di San Francesco (upper and lower churches) with Giotto frescoes. Explore Piazza del Comune and Tempio di Minerva. Return to Perugia for overnight stay (B).
Day 11: Perugia
Free day to explore Perugia’s charming streets. Visit Fontana Maggiore, San Pietro, Palazzo dei Priori, and the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria, home to 13th-century Gothic art. Overnight stay (B).
Day 12: Perugia – Rome
Depart for Rome airport with a stop in Spoleto. If traveling in June or July, witness the Festival dei Due Mondi, celebrating Italian and international arts. End of tour. (B)
