5 Days Abruzzo Italy Road Trip
Abruzzo is one of Italy’s most authentic regions, located between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. This 5-day road trip explores historic hill towns, medieval villages and beautiful coastal scenery.
Day 01 – Arrival in Pescara
Meet on arrival at Pescara Airport or railway station and transfer to your hotel. Pescara is the largest city in Abruzzo and a lively seaside resort.
Visit the historic center and enjoy a walk along the Adriatic waterfront promenade.
Day 02 – Pescara – Penne – Loreto Aprutino – Bucchianico
Distance: 95 km – Driving time: approx 2 hours
Drive inland into the Abruzzo countryside.
First stop at Penne, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Abruzzo. Continue to Loreto Aprutino, famous for olive oil production and historic churches.
Later continue to the village of Bucchianico, birthplace of Saint Camillus de Lellis.
Day 03 – Bucchianico – Roccamorice – Sulmona
Distance: 75 km – Driving time: approx 1.5 hours
Drive toward the dramatic landscapes of the Majella National Park.
Visit Roccamorice, a spectacular mountain village known for the nearby hermitage of San Bartolomeo carved into the rock cliffs.
Continue to Sulmona, famous throughout Italy for its traditional sugar-coated almonds known as confetti.
Day 04 – Sulmona – Pacentro – Pettorano sul Gizio
Distance: 40 km – Driving time: 1 hour
Explore the beautiful medieval village of Pacentro, often listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Later visit Pettorano sul Gizio, a charming stone village dominated by a medieval castle and surrounded by nature reserves.
Day 05 – Sulmona – Ortona – Vasto – Departure
Distance: 150 km – Driving time: approx 3 hours
Return toward the Adriatic coast.
Stop at the historic seaside town of Ortona, known for its cathedral and harbor.
Continue south to Vasto, a beautiful coastal town with panoramic sea views.
Transfer to Pescara Airport for departure.
